'Tis the season for board games
I was co-founder of Bristol-based, third sector specialists Different Kettle and Creative Director of the agency for 17 years. As in most agencies, the annual task of designing the company Christmas card was dreaded. There’s only so much dressing the staff up as elves or in ‘crazy’ Christmas jumpers a creative can take. After a while I hit on the idea of DK games. Christmas has always been a time to get out the family games and that inspired me to create ‘Mr Fish Head’ - based on the goldfish in our logo (called DK) it's essentially Mr Potato Head with stickers. All the subsequent cards featured the further aquatic adventures of DK - be it losing his marbles in the ‘Rolling Reef’, racing to escape an industrial trawler’s grasp in ‘Slip the Net’ or floundering around in ‘Shoal’. And so it came to pass that the annual task of designing the company Christmas card became my favourite job of the whole year (notice how by year 3 of DK games there was no mention of Christmas at all…)
